Computer Output Microfilm (COM)
For data that must be archived for long periods of time and referenced only occasionally, such as any information that must be archived to comply with legal regulations, Computer Output Microfilm (COM) is the medium of choice.
COM technology includes all-points-addressable print capabilities, enabling recorders to accept page-printer data streams and to produce images on film that are the same as those produced on paper. COM archived information can be retrieved with the aid of inexpensive readers or without any electronic device at all. In addition, high-speed digital scanners can quickly digitize and recapture microfilmed images.
