On September 29, 2016, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released an HPMS memo regarding the removal of the Social Security numbers (SSNs) from all Medicare cards by April 2019. A new Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI) will replace the SSN-based Health Insurance Claim Number (HICN) on the new Medicare cards for Medicare transactions, like billing, eligibility status, and claim status. CMS considers the new MBI confidential and it should be protected as personally identifiable information.
In this webinar recording, DST Government Programs experts discuss the intent of this new measure and how this change will impact your plan.
